HomeChemical Corporation (UK) Ltd launches new solar panel cleaner

Solar panels need periodic cleaning to ensure they can operate at maximum efficiency. Debris, dirt and dust can accumulate on the panels, reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the solar cells and hindering energy production.

Chemical Corporation (UK) Ltd has launched a specialised aqueous, emulsion-free solar panel cleaning solution which will quickly remove contamination without the risk of damage or corrosion. Solar Clean can be used in hot or cold water and can be applied neat for stubborn areas.  It is generally diluted 1:24

Solar panels in the UK generally need to be cleaned once or twice a year, but the exact frequency depends on their location and environment. Regular cleaning can help maintain the panels’ condition and potentially extend their lifespan. Clean solar panels ensure even sunlight distribution across the surface, preventing localized heat build up and potential damage.

Use a good quality, soft brush, a sponge or a squeegee with a plastic blade on one side and a cloth covered sponge on the other to clean your panels. A hose with a suitable nozzle will allow liquid to reach the panels and if your mains water is hard, harvested rainwater would be ideal as the final rinse as it leaves less residue on the panels. Pressure washers should never be used as they risk damaging the solar panels.

If the panels are warmed by the sun, then liquid can quickly evaporate on the panels and leave marks on the panel so cleaning your panels on an overcast day, early in the morning, or in the late evening is ideal. In early mornings, the panels will have cooled overnight, and the morning dew can help soften grime leading to less water to clean the panels.

If the panels are completely dry, use a soft brush to brush any loose dirt before tackling the panels.
